Mass adoption, not addiction

While Agile has been around for many years (the Agile Manifesto was created in 2001), the adoption of Agile in New Zealand’s large private enterprises and the government sector has only recently gained significant momentum. We're now crossing the chasm into mass adoption... but what exactly are we adopting?

Are we truly innovating and improving our software development? Or are we simply addicted to the hype rather than solving real business problems and delivering real economic benefits? AgileNZ Conference 2014 aims to explore this through five key themes…

/01

Five talk themes that matter today

Enterprise Agile and Lean

Selection panel

The AgileNZ Conference selection panel includes five of New Zealand’s most passionate and widely recognised Lean|Agile advocates…

Mike Lowery

Mike is an advocate for continuous improvement and Agile delivery. An Agile coach and certified Master of Scrums, Mike walks the talk and loves sharing practical experience with others.

Mike learnt Agile methodologies while working as a senior project manager at the BBC and, since moving to New Zealand, has brought effective Agile processes to a range of government and private sector clients. His UK Army background has prepared him for the vagaries and realities of NZ IT projects. He doesn’t carry a gun, but is apparently quite familiar with 18th century weaponry. Your call.

Lee Thomas

Lee has over 20 years' experience in software development in a variety of roles from analyst, data modeller, developer and manager. He has actively practised Agile methods for the majority of his career including RAD/JAD, RUP, XP, Scrum and more recently SAFe.

Lee has worked in many different industries with a wide variety of organisations such as IAG, Mater Health Services, ASB Bank, Vodafone, Compuware, Computer Associates, EDS and Ford Motor Company.

Lee is a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and an active committee member of the Agile Professionals Network in Auckland.

Edwin Dando

Edwin is a passionate driver of improvement in software delivery. He uses Agile methods to build resilient enterprises that can respond to ever-changing markets.

A widely respected innovator and advocate, Edwin has worked as a consultant for Accenture, Synergy, Gen-I and Assurity. He is a Scrum.org Certified Agile Coach and Trainer.

In 2006, Edwin founded Clarus, a well-known New Zealand Agile consulting firm. Clarus was acquired by Assurity Consulting in 2012. Edwin now runs the Assurity Education practice which offers both public courses and private in-house training for senior managers and software delivery teams.

Jan Behrens

Jan is a Product Development Director with Orion Health. He looks after all development in Orion Health's 'Smarter Hospitals' line of business, with teams in Christchurch, Auckland, Bangkok, and Canberra. Since coming 'off the boat'  from Germany almost seven years ago, he has worked in leadership roles for House of Travel, PayGlobal and now Orion Health. He has a background in logistics and software R&D. Jan is passionate about working with customers, growing and empowering teams, leading positive change, and Agile|Lean principles in general. Jan has introduced Scrum and Agile principles into many teams and organisations over the years. He is a CSM, CPO and CSP from the Scrum Alliance. His favourite quote is Gandhi's (attributed) 'Be the change you wish to see in the world'.

Gareth Evans

Gareth Evans has over 16 years' experience in the IT industry, including over a decade in London where he worked in banking and media on numerous large IT projects as a developer, team leader and Agile software coach. During his time in London, Gareth worked on one of the first and most successful Kanban teams in the UK. Since returning to New Zealand, Gareth has worked at Assurity as an Agile Coach where he enjoys bringing successful economic outcomes to clients using Lean|Agile values and principles combined with solid technical practices that support continuous delivery.
